Regular Season Round 9: Joventut - Gipuzkoa GBC 76-67

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Badalona where 15th ranked Gipuzkoa (3-6) was defeated by sixteenth ranked Joventut (3-5) 76-67. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-12. But Gipuzkoa won second period 24-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gipuzkoa was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Polish forward Tomasz Gielo (206-93, college: Mississippi) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Sergi Vidal (199-81) contributed with 5 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. British power forward Daniel Clark (210-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and Dutch center Henk Norel (213-87) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Gipuzkoa. Four Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Joventut moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Estudiantes. Newly promoted Gipuzkoa keeps the fifteenth position with six games lost. They share it with RETAbet BB. Joventut will play against higher ranked Unicaja Malaga (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gipuzkoa will play against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
