Regular Season Round 9: Kouvot - HyPo 73-81

The game in Kouvola was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked HyPo (6-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Kouvottaret (2-6). HyPo managed to secure a 8-point victory 81-73 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 37-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international swingman Henna Salomaa (177-89, college: Oakland) chipped in 17 points. Five HyPo players scored in double figures. HyPo's coach Miikka Sopanen used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Brittany Carter (183-93, college: Illinois) who recorded 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Layne Murphy (188, college: Chicago St.) added 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for HyPo. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 6-3 record. Loser Kouvottaret dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. HyPo will meet higher ranked Peli-Karhut (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kouvottaret will play against ViVe (#5) in Vimpeli and hope to secure a win.
