There was no surprise in Castellon where 17th ranked Leyma Basquet (2-7) was defeated by tenth ranked Castello (5-5) 82-76 on Friday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Leyma Basquet won second period 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American-French guard Alfredo Ott (190-83, college: Dillard) fired 27 points for the winners. Naturalized Lithuanian forward Tautvydas Sabonis (203-92) chipped in 7 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Zach Monaghan (188-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato, agency: Duran International) produced 22 points and 6 assists and center Eduardo Hernandez-Sonseca (212-83) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Leyma Basquet players scored in double figures. Castello have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Caceres. Leyma Basquet lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with seven games lost. Castello will meet higher ranked Oviedo CB (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leyma Basquet will play against Palencia Baloncesto (#9) and hope to secure a win.
