Regular Season Round 9: Real Canoe - Leganes 56-60

Very expected game in Madrid where 6th ranked Real Canoe (5-3) was defeated by second ranked Leganes (6-3) 60-56 on Saturday. Leganes dominated down low during the game scoring 38 of its points in the paint compared to Real Canoe's 18. They outrebounded Real Canoe 44-30 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Kiara Kudron (188, college: Gonzaga) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Canadian guard Mariah Nunes (178-93, college: Ryerson) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Veronica Matoso (185-88, agency: ProDep Management) who recorded 15 points and 8 rebounds and center Monica Garrido (185-82) added 6 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Leganes maintains second place in Group B with 6-3 record having just three points less than leader Gran Canaria, which they share with 3 other teams. Real Canoe lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with three games lost. Leganes will face Promete (#14) in Logrono in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Real Canoe will play on the road against Alcobendas (#3) and hope to win that game.
