Regular Season Round 9: Distrito Olimpico - Almeria 80-62

Everything went according to plan in Madrid where ninth ranked Distrito Olimpico (4-5) won against 12th ranked Almeria (2-7) 80-62 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Distrito Olimpico. Almeria was better in second period 25-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Almeria to just 6 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Almeria 40-15 including a 13-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Daira Varas (193-89) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Maria-Jose Bolonio (180-85) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. Distrito Olimpico's coach Juan Manuel Ruiz used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Alicia Gonzalez (187-86) who recorded 18 points and forward Pamela Moral (175-82, agency: ProDep Management) added 15 points respectively. Four Almeria players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Distrito Olimpico. They moved-up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Magec Tias. Almeria lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth position with seven games lost. Distrito Olimpico will face league's leader Gran Canaria in Las Palmas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Almeria will play at home against CVCD Granada (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
