Regular Season Round 9: Promete - Valencia 50-59

Date: November 26, 2017
There was no surprise in Logrono where 14th ranked Promete (1-8) was defeated by seventh ranked Valencia (5-3) 59-50 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Promete won third quarter 14-6. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valencia forced 20 Promete turnovers. Strangely Promete outrebounded Valencia 37-22 including a 26-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Mali power forward Meiya Tirera (186-86, agency: ProDep Management) who scored 13 points. Montenegrin guard Snezana Aleksic (173-89, agency: ProDep Management) chipped in 15 points. Valencia's coach Ruben Burgos used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Maria Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Sune Swart (190-95, college: Bucknell) added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Valencia moved-up to sixth place in Group B, which they share with Real Canoe. Loser Promete keeps the fourteenth position with eight games lost. Valencia will face Adareva (#12) in Laguna in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Promete will play on the road against the league's second-placed Leganes and hope to win that game.
