Round 8 in WNBL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Perth where host Perth Lynx (8-4) beat league's leader Townsville Fire (8-4) 84-79 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Townsville Fire. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Perth Lynx forced 19 Townsville Fire turnovers. The best player for the winners was American swingman Samantha Whitcomb (178-88, college: Washington) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import guard Courtney Williams (173-94, college: S.Florida) chipped in 22 points. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and the former international center Cayla George (192-89) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Five Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. Perth Lynx have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Townsville and Sydney. Townsville Fire will play next round against strong Sydney Uni Flames trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Perth Lynx will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Adelaide Lightning on the road.
