Regular Season Round 7: Crvena Zvezda - Istanbul Univ. 84-40

Bottom-ranked Turkish Istanbul Uni (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 84-40 loss to second ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (6-1) in Beograd. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. They dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Istanbul Uni's 18 and made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game, while Istanbul Uni only scored one point from the stripe. Crvena Zvezda forced 30 Istanbul Uni turnovers and outrebounded them 42-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Istanbul Uni's players. It was an exceptional evening for guard Nevena Naumcev (173-99) who led the winners and scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Mina Djordjevic (186-99, agency: BeoBasket) accounted for 16 points for the winning side. Crvena Zvezda's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Akalan Sevval came up with 19 points and 6 rebounds and forward Dilara Ozen (170-1) added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Istanbul Uni in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Crvena Zvezda. Defending Serbian champion maintains second place in A with 6-1 record behind leader Buducnost. Istanbul Uni lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Crvena Zvezda's next round opponent will be Beroe (#5) in Stara Zagora. Istanbul Uni will play at home against Play Off and hopes to get finally their first victory.
