Regular Season Round 9: Groningen - Leeuwarden 112-65
Date: November 30, 2017
Very expected game when 6th ranked Leeuwarden (4-5) was crushed on the road by second ranked Groningen (7-2) 112-65 on Thursday. The game without a history. Groningen led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Leeuwarden only scored six points from the stripe. They outrebounded Leeuwarden 42-20 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Leeuwarden's players. Croatian power forward Drago Pasalic (208-84, agency: Court Side) stepped up and scored 18 points and 9 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners and American guard Brandyn Curry (187-91, college: Harvard, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 15 points and 9 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Jeroen van der List (212-89, college: Indian Hills CC) with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Emile Blackman (190-94, college: Duquesne) scored 14 points. Five Groningen and four Leeuwarden players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains second place with 7-2 record behind leader Leiden. Loser Leeuwarden dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Groningen will have a break next round. Leeuwarden will play at home against Weert (#8) and hope to win that game.
