Regular Season Round 15: Soles - Capitanes 93-72

The game between Top Four teams took place in Mexicali. First ranked host Soles (11-4) smashed 4th placed Capitanes (8-5) 93-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Capitanes. They outrebounded Capitanes 38-19 including 25 on the defensive glass. Soles looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Aaron Valdes (196-93, college: Hawaii) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) helped adding 17 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Gabriel Giron (192-88) with 23 points and 5 assists and Panamanian forward Ernesto Oglivie (203-89) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Soles maintains first place with 11-4 record. Newly promoted Capitanes keep the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Correcaminos. Soles are again looking forward to face Capitanes (#4) in Mexico in the next round. Capitanes will have a break next round.
