Undefeated leader Empoli recorded the ninth consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 14th ranked Cagliari V. (1-8) 92-70. Empoli dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Cagliari V.'s 28. Empoli forced 20 Cagliari V. turnovers and outrebounded them 39-21 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Cagliari V.'s players. Guard Greta Brunelli (176-90) fired 16 points, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89, agency: SPORTlab Agency) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Four Empoli players scored in double figures. Bulgarian point guard Iva Georgieva (170-96, college: Salt Lake CC) produced 22 points and 7 rebounds and guard Arianna Puggioni (170-99) added 21 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Empoli maintains first position in A2 with 9-0 record. Loser Cagliari V. keeps the fourteenth place with eight games lost. Empoli will face Umbertide (#12) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Cagliari V. will play against Spezzina in La Spezia and hope to win that game.
