Regular Season Round 10: Gernika - Gipuzkoa UPV 76-55

An interesting game took place in Gernika where higher ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (6-4) was upset on the court of tenth ranked Gernika (5-5) 76-55 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gernika led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a great shooting night for Gernika especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.5 percentage. American guard Ameryst Alston (175-93, college: Ohio St.) fired 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. The other American import center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Jillian Alleyne (190-94, college: Oregon) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds and Argentinian Lyndra Weaver added 15 points (made all of her seven free throws) respectively for lost side. Gernika moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Al-Qazeres. Gipuzkoa UPV lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Araski and Mann Filter. Gernika will meet Campus Promete (#13) in the next round where they are favorite. Gipuzkoa UPV will play against the league's leader Perfumerias Avenida (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
