Regular Season Round 9: Melbourne - UC Capitals 92-72

Rather expected game when 8th ranked Canberra Capitals (2-12) were smashed by fifth ranked Boomers (9-6) in Melbourne 92-72 on Saturday. Boomers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Canberra Capitals' 38. They outrebounded Canberra Capitals 42-31 including a 36-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Boomers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for the former international center Elizabeth Cambage (203-91) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds (on 15-of-18 shooting from the field). The former international Jenna OHea (185-87) contributed with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Boomers players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Natalie Hurst (164-83) answered with 21 points and American forward Jordan Hooper (188-92, college: Nebraska) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Canberra Capitals. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Boomers moved-up to third place. Canberra Capitals lost their twelfth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Boomers will face Bendigo Spirit (#7) at home in the next round. Canberra Capitals will play against Dandenong Rangers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
