WNBL round 9 most important game was a victory of Townsville Fire over 3rd placed Sydney Uni Flames 88-85 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Townsville Fire looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a good game for the former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Sydney Wiese (185-95, college: Oregon St., agency: LBM Management) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Alex Wilson (174-94) answered with 18 points and 7 rebounds and international Katie-Rae Ebzery (177-90) added 21 points in the effort for Sydney Uni Flames. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sydney Uni Flames' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Townsville Fire maintains second place with 9-5 record behind leader Perth. Defending champion Sydney Uni Flames dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Adelaide. Townsville Fire are looking forward to face Bendigo Spirit (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sydney Uni Flames will play against the league's leader Perth Lynx and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
