Regular Season Round 9: Charnay - Avenir 71-60

There was no surprise in Charnay-les-Macon where 9th ranked Avenir (3-6) was defeated by fifth ranked Charnay (6-3) 71-60 on Saturday. Charnay made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Avenir turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Ivorian center Kariata Diaby (192-95) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Laure Belleville (175-87) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Charnay players scored in double figures. Charnay's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Joelly Belleka (163-95) who recorded 19 points and naturalized Mali guard Touty Gandega (170-91) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively. Charnay moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Montbrison. Loser Avenir dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Charnay will face higher ranked Bretagne Basket (#3) in Pleyber-Christ in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Avenir will play at home against CFBB (#11) and hope to win that game.
