Regular Season Round 9: GTK Gliwice - Anwil 75-94

PLK top team - Anwil (9-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed sixteenth ranked GTK (2-7) in Gliwice 94-75. The game was mostly controlled by Anwil. GTK managed to win fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. The former international power forward Pawel Leonczyk (203-86) nailed 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and Cape Verdean-Portuguese Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) accounted for 15 points and 7 rebounds. Five Anwil players scored in double figures. American center Maverick Morgan (208-94, college: Illinois) came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Marek Piechowicz (201-88) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for GTK in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Anwil have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Newly promoted GTK keeps the sixteenth position with seven games lost. Anwil will meet league's second-placed MKS Dabrowa Gornicza on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. GTK will play against Twarde Pierniki (#3) and hope to secure a win.
