Regular Season Round 7: Niki Lefkadas - Panionios 66-69

The most exciting game of round 7 in the A1 took place in Lefkadas. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked Niki Lefkadas (3-4) to leader Panionios (7-0) 69-66 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-66. Panionios made 27-of-31 free shots (87.1 percent) during the game. Panionios outrebounded Niki Lefkadas 42-31 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Niki Lefkadas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian-Jamaican center Jose-Ann Johnson (193-93, college: Duquesne) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. American forward Katie Healy (185-94, college: St.Bonaventure) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of her ten free throws !!!) for the winners. American forward Peyton Whitted (190-95, college: Penn St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds and international swingman Elena Tsineke (174-99) added 14 points in the effort for Niki Lefkadas. Panionios have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiacos. Niki Lefkadas lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Esperides. Panionios is looking forward to face league's leader Olympiacos in Pireus in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Niki Lefkadas will play on the road against Athinaikos (#6) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
