There was no surprise when 14th ranked Cerignola Udas (3-8) were edged at home by fifth ranked Porto S.Elpidio (7-4) 71-69 on Sunday. Porto S.Elpidio well out of reach of Cerignola Udas shooting 89.3 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 94.4 percentage. The best player for the winners was point guard Fabrizio Piccone (182-98) who scored 20 points and 6 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Guard Stefano Cernivani (185-91) chipped in 17 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Forward Mattia Marchetti (193-89) produced 20 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) and forward Giovanni Gambarota (190-89) added 12 points and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Cerignola Udas players scored in double figures. Porto S.Elpidio moved-up to fourth place in B. Newly promoted Cerignola Udas keep the fourteenth position with eight games lost. Porto S.Elpidio will face Civitanova (#8) at home in the next round. Cerignola Udas will play against Ortona (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
