Regular Season Round 20: Fukushima - Gunma 69-89

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Fukushima (12-6) against fifth ranked Gunma (9-9) on Sunday night. Host Fukushima was crushed by Gunma in Fukushima 89-69. Gunma dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Fukushima's 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds and forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) supported him with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Four Gunma players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 6 rebounds by guard Deon Jones (198-93, college: Monmouth) did not help to save the game for Fukushima. Center Jarred Shaw (208-90, college: Utah St.) added 8 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gunma moved-up to third place. Loser Fukushima keeps the second position with six games lost. Gunma will meet at home Shinshu BW (#5) in the next round. Fukushima will play against Kumamoto V. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
