There was no surprise in Sichuan where 17th ranked Blue Whales (2-9) were defeated by second ranked Golden Stars (9-2) 121-105 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian power forward Donatas Motiejunas (213-90) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. International forward Yanyuhang Ding (200-93) chipped in 30 points and 5 rebounds. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-85) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists and American Jamaal Franklin (196-91, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) added 20 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Golden Stars and five Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Golden Stars. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Liaoning FL and Jiangsu D. Blue Whales lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventeenth place with nine games lost. Golden Stars will face Xinjiang Flying Tige (#10) in Urumqi in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Blue Whales will play at home against Eagles (#17) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
