Regular Season Round 9: Stjarnan - Haukar 83-96

The game in Stjarnan was also quite interesting. Third ranked Haukar (6-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Stjarnan (4-5). Haukar defeated Stjarnan 96-83 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Stjarnan. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Stjarnan's 36. It was a good game for American forward Paul Jones (198-89, college: W.Washington) who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). International guard Kari Jonsson (190-97, college: Drexel) contributed with 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Sherrod Wright (193-91, college: George Mason) added 18 points and 10 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Stjarnan. Four Haukar and five Stjarnan players scored in double figures. Haukar have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 6-3 record behind leader IR, which they share with Keflavik and KR. Loser Stjarnan keeps the seventh position with five games lost. Haukar will face league's leader IR in Reykjavik in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Stjarnan will play on the road against Keflavik (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
