Liga Endesa top team - Real Madrid (9-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Gran Canaria (6-4) 96-72. The game without a history. Real Madrid led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Real Madrid forced 20 Gran Canaria turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Slovenian guard Luka Doncic (201-99) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 5 assists. American forward Trey Thompkins (208-90, college: Georgia) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Real Madrid players scored in double figures. Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) replied with 12 points and Israeli point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) added 10 points and 4 assists in the effort for Gran Canaria. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Madrid maintains first position with 9-1 record. Gran Canaria at the other side keeps the sixth place with four games lost. They share the position with Baskonia. Real Madrid are looking forward to face UCAM Murcia (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play against Burgos (#17) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
