Regular Season Round 8: Beroe - Crvena Zvezda 84-78

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (6-2) against fifth ranked Bulgarian Beroe (3-5) on Wednesday night. Visiting Crvena Zvezda was defeated by Beroe in a tough game in Stara Zagora 78-84. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Crvena Zvezda. Beroe made 26-of-34 charity shots (76.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Crvena Zvezda 44-24 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Crvena Zvezda was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Tearra Banks (188-95, college: Austin Peay St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds and the other American import forward Birttney Wright (178-94, college: Alabama St.) who added 23 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Mina Djordjevic (186-99, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 22 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Marija Prlja (163-87) scored 16 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Beroe maintains fifth position in A with 3-5 record. Defending Serbian champion Crvena Zvezda keeps the second place with two games lost. Beroe will play against higher ranked Play Off (#4) in Sarajevo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Crvena Zvezda will play at home against the league's leader Buducnost and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
