Regular Season Round 17: Capitanes - Mineros 84-86

Important game to mention about took place in Mexico. Third ranked Mineros (11-6) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Capitanes (9-6) 86-84 in the game for the third place. Mineros had a 33-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American guard Eric McClellan (193-93, college: Gonzaga, agency: KMG Sports Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Panamanian center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) chipped in 18 points and 11 rebounds. Four Mineros players scored in double figures. American-Puerto Rican forward Emmanuel Andujar (198-93, college: Manhattan) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: BeoBasket) scored 15 points. Capitanes' coach Ramon Diaz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mineros have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Mineros maintains third place with 11-6 record behind leader Fuerza Regia. Capitanes at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Correcaminos. Mineros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Capitanes will play again against Mineros (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
