Regular Season Round 9: Breakers - Bullets 96-89

NBL top team - New Zealand Breakers (10-4) added another victory to their record on Thursday. This time they beat seventh ranked Bullets (5-8) in Auckland 96-89. They outrebounded Bullets 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. New Zealand Breakers shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was New Zealand forward Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St.) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). American guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Tom Jervis (211-87, college: Troy) who recorded 20 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and American swingman Perrin Buford (198-94, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: 3Eye) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Despite that victory New Zealand Breakers went down to second position due to points difference. Loser Bullets dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Hawks. New Zealand Breakers will meet at home Adelaide 36ers (#4) in the next round. Bullets will play against the league's leader Perth Wildcats and hope to secure a win.
