Important game to mention about took place in Grindavik. Ninth ranked Grindavik (5-5) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 7th ranked Valur (4-6) 90-89 on Thursday evening. Grindavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international guard Olafur Olafsson (194-90) scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Dagur Jonsson (185-95, college: St.Francis, NY) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks and Gunnar Hardarson (185-96, college: Belm.Abbey) scored 20 points. Five Grindavik and four Valur players scored in double figures. Valur's coach Agust Bjorgvinsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Grindavik moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Stjarnan. Newly promoted Valur dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. Grindavik will face Thor AK (#11) in Akureyri in the next round. Valur will play at home against the league's second-placed Haukar having rather not much hope for a victory.
