Very expected game when 7th ranked Bendigo Spirit (3-12) was crushed at home by third ranked Townsville Fire (10-6) 99-62 on Saturday. Townsville Fire made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Bendigo Spirit turnovers and outrebounded them 38-23 including 28 on the defensive glass. Townsville Fire looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Sydney Wiese (185-95, college: Oregon St., agency: LBM Management) chipped in 26 points and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side American forward Betnijah Laney (183-93, college: Rutgers, agency: LBM Management) responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds and guard Ahlise Hurst (174-0) scored 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Townsville Fire maintains third position with 10-6 record having just two points less than leader Perth. Bendigo Spirit lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 12 games lost.
