Not a big story in a game in Galdakao where 10th ranked Rioja (4-7) was defeated by fifth ranked GDKO Bizkaia (7-4) 75-67 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 75-67. It was a great evening for center Patricia Valiente (185-84, agency: ProDep Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Maria Barneda (177-98) helped adding 19 points. Four GDKO Bizkaia players scored in double figures. Guard Intza Lizarazu (171-91) responded with 25 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Brenae Harris (178-92, college: Toledo) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Rioja's coach Xabier Chico let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. GDKO Bizkaia maintains fifth place in Group A with 7-4 record. Newly promoted Rioja keeps the tenth position with seven games lost. GDKO Bizkaia will face Lima-Horta (#7) in Barcelona in the next round. Rioja will play at home against ADBA and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
