The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Liffey Celtics (6-2) in Kildare on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by eighth ranked IT Carlow (2-5) 68-65. Strangely Liffey Celtics outrebounded IT Carlow 51-38 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Alexis Eckles (178-93, college: Cleveland St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and international power forward Sarah Kenny (180-97) chipped in 15 points and 12 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Devon Brookshire (188-94, college: St.Mary's, CA) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and international power forward Aine OConnor (182-91) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Four Liffey Celtics players scored in double figures. IT Carlow moved-up to seventh place. Defending champion Liffey Celtics dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Glanmire. IT Carlow are looking forward to face higher ranked Brunell (#5) in Cork in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Liffey Celtics will play at home against P.Panthers and are hoping to win this game.
