Regular Season Round 11: Distrito Olimpico - Valencia 66-67

Important game to mention about took place in Madrid. Fifth ranked Valencia (7-3) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 10th ranked Distrito Olimpico (4-7) 67-66 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-17. But Distrito Olimpico won second period 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for Brazilian forward Isabela Ramona-Lyra (180-94) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mali power forward Meiya Tirera (186-86, agency: ProDep Management) helped adding 14 points and 6 rebounds. Five Valencia players scored in double figures. Blanca Ruiz-de-Asin (175-97) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and center Daira Varas (193-89) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Valencia. They moved-up to fourth place in Group B, which they share with Real Canoe. Loser Distrito Olimpico dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Valencia will face CVCD Granada (#9) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Distrito Olimpico will play against the league's second-placed Leganes and hope to win that game.
