Very important is a road loss of second ranked Olympiacos (6-2) against fifth ranked AEK (5-3) on Saturday night. Visiting Olympiacos was defeated by AEK in a tough game in Athens 62-66. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Olympiacos. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Olympiacos won second period 25-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when AEK won last quarter 15-12. Olympiacos was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American swingman Manny Harris (196-89, college: Michigan) who scored that evening 15 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import point guard Mike Green (185-85, college: Butler) supported him with 12 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Even a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds by American power forward Jamel McLean (203-88, college: Xavier) did not help to save the game for Olympiacos. International forward Kostas Papanikolaou (205-90) added 10 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. AEK maintains fifth position with 5-3 record, which they share with PAOK. Olympiacos at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Lavrio and Promitheas. AEK will play against PAOK (#6) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Olympiacos will play at home against the league's second-placed Lavrio (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
