Regular Season Round 16: San-en - Toyama Grouses 63-70

No shocking result in a game in Hamamatsu where second ranked Toyama Grouses (9-12) defeated one of their biggest challengers San-en NeoPhoenix (9-12) 70-63 on Saturday. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to San-en NeoPhoenix's 24. International forward Naoki Uto (188-91) fired 25 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Robert Dozier (206-85, college: Memphis) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Toyama Grouses maintains second position with 9-12 record having eight points less than leader Ryukyu GK, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated San-en NeoPhoenix. Toyama Grouses will face Yokohama BC (#6) at home in the next round. San-en NeoPhoenix will play against the league's second-placed Kyoto Hannar. (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
