Undefeated Leiden (8-1) recorded its first loss on the court of second ranked Groningen on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Groningen 91-69. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Leiden. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Leiden managed to win fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Leiden 44-20 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Evan Bruinsma (202-92, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: Inception Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Naturalized American swingman Jason Dourisseau (196-83, college: Nebraska) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Groningen's coach Erik Braal felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International Worthy de-Jong (194-88) produced 16 points and 4 assists and American guard Carrington Love (186-94, college: Green Bay) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Four Groningen and five Leiden players scored in double figures. Groningen have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 8-2 record having just one point less than leader Leiden. Leiden at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. Groningen are looking forward to face Amsterdam (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Leiden will have a break next round.
