Regular Season Round 11: Civitanova - Palermo 76-55

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Civitanova (5-5) rolled over 4th placed Palermo (8-2) in Civitanova Marche 76-55 on Sunday. Civitanova dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Palermo's 22. Civitanova forced 22 Palermo turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Palermo's players. Guard Veronica Perini (175-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points, 6 assists and 4 steals (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Point guard Margherita Mataloni (165-95) contributed with 17 points and 6 assists for the winners. Civitanova's coach Donatella Melappioni felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lithuanian center Ieva Preskienyte (193-93, agency: ProDep Management) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) and power forward Liliana Miccio (178-89) added 13 points in the effort for Palermo. Civitanova maintains ninth place in A2 with 5-5 record. Loser Palermo keeps the fourth position with two games lost. Civitanova will face Alghero (#13) at home in the next round. Palermo will play against RR Retail Galli (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
