Regular Season Round 11: Gran Canaria - Burgos 87-80

Date: December 10, 2017
There was no surprise in Las Palmas where 17th ranked Burgos (2-9) was defeated by seventh ranked Gran Canaria (7-4) 87-80 on Sunday. Burgos was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 26-16 charge of Gran Canaria, which allowed them to win the game. They shot 60.7 percent from the field. They also forced 19 Burgos turnovers. Gran Canaria looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for Czech center Ondrej Balvin (217-92, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots). Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) helped adding 17 points. American guard John Jenkins (193-91, college: Vanderbilt) responded with 25 points (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and Serbian center Goran Huskic (210-92, college: Howard Col., TX) scored 11 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Four Burgos players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Baskonia and Obradoiro. Newly promoted Burgos keeps the seventeenth position with nine games lost. Gran Canaria will face league's second-placed FC Barcelona on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Burgos will play against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#3) and hope to win that game.
