Regular Season Round 11: Campus Promete - Gernika 78-69

There was a surprise result in Logrono where thirteenth ranked Campus Promete (2-9) defeated higher ranked Gernika (5-6) 78-69 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-17. But Gernika won third quarter 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Campus Promete dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Gernika's 28. The best player for the winners was Jamaican power forward Vanessa Gidden (192-85, college: Hofstra, agency: ProDep Management) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Serbian forward Adrijana Knezevic (183-87) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Campus Promete players scored in double figures. American guard Ameryst Alston (175-93, college: Ohio St.) produced 19 points and Russian forward Marina Bas (194-85) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Campus Promete moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Zamarat. Gernika at the other side keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Campus Promete will face higher ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (#7) in San Sebastian in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
