Regular Season Round 8: Panionios - Olympiacos 64-82

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Panionios (7-1) in Athens on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Olympiacos (8-0) 82-64. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Panionios. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 18 points. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Yvonne Anderson (170-90, college: Texas, agency: Two Points) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 4 steals and the other American import power forward Victoria Macaulay (193-90, college: Temple, agency: Two Points) who added 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Olympiacos' coach Eleni Kapogianni used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Katie Healy (185-94, college: St.Bonaventure) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard Aikaterini Spatharou (172-83) scored 17 points and 7 assists. Olympiacos have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-0 record. Panionios at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Faros Keratsiniou. Olympiacos are looking forward to face Athinaikos (#5) in Athens in the next round. Panionios will play on the road against Olympiacos Volou and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
