Regular Season Round 9: Maccabi Haifa - Bnei Hertzeliya 86-72

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Maccabi Haifa (4-5) beat at home bottom-ranked Bnei Hasharon (2-7) 86-72 on Wednesday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Maccabi Haifa's pressure prevailed and they won that period 29-20 extending their advantage to 14 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Bnei Hasharon's 24 and made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Maccabi Haifa looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for American forward Brandon Bowman (205-84, college: Georgetown) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. International Oz Blayzer (199-92) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Maccabi Haifa's coach Offer Rahimi used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Georgian point guard Taurean Green (184-85, college: Florida) answered with 16 points and 6 rebounds and the former international swingman Shawn Dawson (198-93) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Bnei Hasharon. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Maccabi Haifa. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hapoel T-A and Maccabi Rishon. Bnei Hasharon lost their third game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Maccabi Haifa will face higher ranked Galil Gilboa (#4) in Rosh Pina in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bnei Hasharon will play at home against Maccabi Rishon (#6) and hope to win that game.
