Regular Season Round 17: Kauhajoki - Espoo United 102-76
Date: December 13, 2017
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Kauhajoki (11-6) crushed at home 5th ranked Espoo United (9-8) 102-76. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoki. Espoo United was better in fourth quarter 31-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kauhajoki dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Espoo United's 38 and made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Espoo United 40-28 including a 33-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Kauhajoki especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American players dominated also this game. Swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: Blacktop Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Marcus Allen (191-94, college: Stanford) chipped in 19 points. Guard Omar Calhoun (198-93, college: Connecticut) responded with 14 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Jeb Ivey (190-80, college: Portland St.) scored 14 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kauhajoki maintains third place with 11-6 record having just two points less than leader Salon Vilpas. Newly promoted Espoo United dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Kauhajoki will play against league's second-placed Kouvot in Kouvola in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Espoo United will play on the road against Joensuun Kataja (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
