Regular Season Round 18: COR-Borisfen - Tsmoki-Minsk 78-74

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Tsmoki-Minsk (16-1) in Mogilev on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked COR-Borisfen (15-2) 78-74. It ended at the same time the 16-game winning streak of Tsmoki-Minsk. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 30-22. But Tsmoki-Minsk won second period 16-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Tsmoki-Minsk 40-29 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for forward Evgeniy Kopylov (199-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Alex Strauther (177, college: CS Dominguez H.) contributed with 17 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four COR-Borisfen players scored in double figures. International forward Yauheni Beliankou (197-95) replied with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and international guard Roman Rubinshteyn (195-96, agency: Alti Sport) added 22 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Tsmoki-Minsk. Tsmoki-Minsk's coach Aleksander Krutikov tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. COR-Borisfen have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Grodno-93. Defending champion Tsmoki-Minsk still keeps top position with one game lost. COR-Borisfen is again looking forward to face league's leader Tsmoki-Minsk at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tsmoki-Minsk will have a break next round.
