Regular Season Round 18: Salon Vilpas - Lapua 97-66

Korisliiga top team - Salon Vilpas (14-4) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (3-13) 97-66. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 97-66. Salon Vilpas made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Salon Vilpas outrebounded Lapuan Korikobrat 48-31 including 37 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Aaron Jones (206-93, college: Mississippi) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import point guard Johnathan Jordan (178-92, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Salon Vilpas players scored in double figures. Salon Vilpas' coach Joonas Iisalo felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American Maurice Creek (196-90, college: G.Washington) who recorded 19 points and Puerto Rican-American forward Christopher Ortiz (203-93, college: Kent St., agency: Inception Sports) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Salon Vilpas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-4 record. Lapuan Korikobrat lost sixth consecutive game. Loser Lapuan Korikobrat keeps the tenth place with 13 games lost. Salon Vilpas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lapuan Korikobrat will play against KTP-Basket (#9) in Kotka and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
