Regular Season Round 17: SeaHorses - Niigata Albirex 104-94

There was no surprise when 4th placed Niigata Albirex (9-14) lost to first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (20-3) in Kariya 94-104 on Saturday. Aishin Sea Horses outrebounded Niigata Albirex 37-26 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. The former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international swingman Makoto Hiejima (190-90) contributed with 17 points and 8 assists for the winners. Five Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) answered with 28 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 21 points and 7 assists in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aishin Sea Horses maintains first place with 20-3 record. Niigata Albirex lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with 14 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face San-en NeoPhoenix (#3) in Hamamatsu in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Niigata Albirex will play on the road against Yokohama BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
