Regular Season Round 12: Valencia - CVCD Granada 70-49

There was no surprise when 9th ranked CVCD Granada (4-8) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Valencia (8-3) 70-49 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia. CVCD Granada was better in second period 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valencia forced 21 CVCD Granada turnovers and outrebounded them 44-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Valencia made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Portuguese guard Maria Correia (173-91, agency: ProDep Management) who scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Mali power forward Meiya Tirera (186-86, agency: ProDep Management) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks. Coach Ruben Burgos's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Rebeca Rodriguez who recorded 12 points and 8 rebounds and Isabel Pastor added 9 points and 6 assists respectively. Valencia have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place in Group B, which they share with Real Canoe. Newly promoted CVCD Granada keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. Valencia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Valencia to the arena Picken Claret.
