Regular Season Round 12: Groningen - Rotterdam 82-49
Date: December 16, 2017
Eredivisie top team - Groningen (10-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked Rotterdam (5-6) 82-49. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Rotterdam. The game without a history. Groningen led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They outrebounded Rotterdam 40-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. Groningen players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Rotterdam's players. The winners were led by the former international center Thomas Koenis (211-89, agency: Court Side) who scored that evening 15 points and 8 rebounds and international guard Arvin Slagter (191-85, agency: Court Side) supported him with 17 points. Groningen's coach Erik Braal felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 16 points and 9 rebounds by American swingman Trevor Setty (203-89, college: Pikeville) did not help to save the game for Rotterdam. His fellow American import forward Chris Commons (206-84, college: USC Aiken) added 13 points. Groningen have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-2 record. Rotterdam at the other side keeps the fifth place with six games lost. Groningen will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rotterdam will play at home against Leeuwarden (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
