Regular Season Round 12: Gran Canaria - Picken Claret 90-57

Undefeated leader Gran Canaria delivered the twelfth consecutive victory. This time they crushed 7th ranked Picken Claret (7-5) 90-57 in Las Palmas. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. Picken Claret was better in fourth quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Picken Claret to just 6 points in first quarter. Gran Canaria made 24-of-26 charity shots (92.3 percent) during the game, while Picken Claret only scored five points from the stripe. Gran Canaria forced 25 Picken Claret turnovers and outrebounded them 44-32 including 29 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by forward Maria Royo (178-86) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) supported her with 19 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Gran Canaria's coach Maikel Lopez felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by forward Beatriz Royo (176-91) did not help to save the game for Picken Claret. Power forward Noelia Masia (183-98) added 12 points. Gran Canaria (12-0) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B with a perfect record of 12 victories in a row. Picken Claret at the other side keeps the seventh place with five games lost. Gran Canaria's next round opponent will be Adelantados (#3) in San Cristobal, which may be the game of the day. Picken Claret's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Valencia Valencia.
