Regular Season Round 5: Atenas - Boca Jrs 86-81

There was no surprise in Cordoba where 18th ranked Boca Juniors (1-4) was defeated by sixth ranked Atenas (4-2) 86-81 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Atenas made 28-of-35 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Boca Juniors was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Jerome Meyinsse (207-88, college: Virginia, agency: Dutt Sports Services) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Donald Sims (185-87, college: Appalachian St., agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 32 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). The former international swingman Adrian Boccia (195-82) responded with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Mariano Fierro (200-86) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Five Boca Juniors players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Atenas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Quimsa. Boca Juniors lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with four games lost. Atenas will face league's leader San Lorenzo in Almagra in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Boca Juniors will play at home against San Martin Corrientes (#8) and hope to win that game.
