Regular Season Round 9: Niki Lefkadas - Proteas 64-63

Important game to mention about took place in Lefkadas. Eighth ranked Niki Lefkadas (4-5) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 9th ranked Proteas (3-6) 64-63 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Proteas. Proteas was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 15-12 charge of Niki Lefkadas, which allowed them to win the game. They made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Peyton Whitted (190-95, college: Penn St.) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 20 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Kelley Austria (183, college: Dayton, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 21 points and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Alexis Govan (178-93, college: W.Kentucky) who recorded 18 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Evgenia Kollatou (172-98) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Proteas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Niki Lefkadas moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Esperides and PAOK. Loser Proteas keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Niki Lefkadas will face Panathlitikos (#10) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Proteas will play at home against the league's leader Olympiacos and hope to win that game.
