Regular Season Round 24: Aomori Watts - Gunma 88-102

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Aomori Watts (6-17) lost at home to third ranked Gunma (11-11) 102-88 on Sunday. Gunma dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Aomori Watts' 36 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Aomori Watts 41-27 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who led his team to a victory with 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. The other American import forward Scootie Randall (198-90, college: Temple) contributed with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Point guard Keisuke Aita (182-95) replied with 21 points and 5 assists and American forward Joe Burton (201-90, college: Oregon St.) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Aomori Watts. Four Gunma and five Aomori Watts players scored in double figures. Aomori Watts' coach rotated twelve players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Gunma maintains third position with 11-11 record having just three points less than leader Akita NH. Loser Aomori Watts keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. Gunma will face league's second-placed Kanazawa Sam. in Ishikawa in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Aomori Watts will play on the road against Iwate Big Bulls and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
