Regular Season Round 17: SeaHorses - Niigata Albirex 94-78

Rather expected game when 4th placed Niigata Albirex (9-14) lost to first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (20-3) in Kariya 78-94 on Sunday. Aishin Sea Horses made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Daniel Orton (208-90, college: Kentucky) contributed with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Point guard Shunki Hatakeyama (170-91) answered with 24 points and 7 rebounds and American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aishin Sea Horses maintains first place with 20-3 record. Niigata Albirex lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with 14 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face San-en NeoPhoenix (#3) in Hamamatsu in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Niigata Albirex will play on the road against Yokohama BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
