Nineteenth-ranked Blue Whales (2-15) made lots of trouble for fourteenth ranked Sturgeons (7-10) in Jinjiang on Sunday. Sturgeons managed to secure only two-point victory 105-103. However their fans expected much easier game. Sturgeons made 28-of-30 free shots (93.3 percent) during the game, while Blue Whales only scored eleven points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was American point guard Russ Smith (183-91, college: Louisville) who scored 47 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. International forward LinJian Chen (198-93) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Sturgeons' coach Bin Fan used entire bench in such tough game. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-85) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points, 22 rebounds and 6 assists and American Jamaal Franklin (196-91, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) added 22 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for the guests. Five Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Sturgeons maintains fourteenth place with 7-10 record. Blue Whales lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the nineteenth position with 15 games lost. Sturgeons will face higher ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (#7) in Urumqi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blue Whales will play on the road against Golden Bulls (#9) in Hangzhou and hope to win that game.
